If you are not personally affected by the mortgage crisis, we could use your help. If you are ready and looking for a companion, adopt from your local shelter. If you have a few hours to give, volunteer with us . If you have the ability to donate, consider giving to our center to help ensure that our home will always be open for them.
For the person who has everything - including a big heart - make a gift to the Escondido Humane Society in his or her name.
Sponsor a dog or a cat (or both), and we'll send your recipient a beautiful card notifying them of your gift, and we'll place their name in our "book of friends" all year round. Your gift will help provide food, medical care, shelter, and a safe, loving home to an animal in need. Truly, it's the gift on a new, better life. What could be a sweeter or more thoughtful gift than that?
We highly encourage all pet owners to plan for financially difficult times as far in advance as possible. Talk to your friends and family members - who may temporarily care for your pet? Look for pet friendly housing in the area - it's out there, though it sometimes takes time and research. Do not ever abandon your pet under any circumstances. They are not wild animals and cannot fend for themselves, and you do not know how or when they will be found - if ever. Abandonment is sentencing an animal to suffering.
Due to size contraints, our shelter is currently on a limited intake (breed, age, etc do not affect whether or not we can accept an animal - it's solely based on space available). We offer pet-friendly housing lists, and lists of other rescues who may also be able to assist you with placing your animal in a new home if we cannot. Obedience classes: Sit, stay....join us!
Dog training classes forming now at EHS - learn humane methods from seasoned instructor Sylvia Morgan at our Adoption Center. We've kicked off eight week sessions, including "basic obedience" (covering topics such as housetraining, barking, chewing, and commands such as sit, stay, come, and watch me), with "intermediate obedience" and "puppy training" coming soon. Each eight week session costs $95 - with registration fees supporting the animals in our care - and are great for "tune-ups" or learning brand new commands and tools for effectively managing your pet's behavior in a positive way.
Class size is limited to allow for personal interaction with the instructor, so please reserve early! Email behavior@escondidohumanesociety.org for details, or call Bob Stout, Animal Behaviorist, at (760) 888-2232 to learn more.
Save the Date of Saturday, September 13 for our special 15th annual Tails at Twilight Gala
This year's theme is based on "A Starfish Story," in which a boy feverishly saves starfish stranded on a beach. On being questioned as to how it could possibly make a difference as there were too many to save, the boy replied, "it makes a difference to this one" and threw the starfish back into the sea.
Join us for this special anniversary year gala, to be held at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, as we celebrate making a difference in the lives of animals - and the many people who love them. This event will sell out, so early ticket confirmation is encouraged ($150 ticket / $1500 table of 10 / $2,000 table sponsor). If you haven't joined us before, this is the year to do it! Bring your date, friends or business colleagues, and
Sponsorships, program advertising, and tickets available now Please call Abigail Rowland, Development Director at (760) 888-2240 for details, or email development@escondidohumanesociety.org.
