ESCONDIDO HUMANE SOCIETY HONORS VOLUNTEERS

AT AN EVENING OF COMEDY

ESCONDIDO, CA—April 17, 2002—In recognition of national volunteer week, April 21-27, the Escondido Humane Society will honor over one hundred volunteers with an “Evening of Comedy” April 27 at the Carlsbad Village Theatre.  The show which begins at 8 p.m. is a benefit for EHS put on by Troupe Therapy, a group of top San Diego comedians.

According to Mary Lee Poremba, the Escondido Humane Society’s volunteer coordinator, “We’ve had to cut our paid staff significantly this year due to the fire, making us particularly reliant on the help of volunteers.  If it weren’t for our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to do half of the things we accomplish each year.”

Volunteers contributed a total of 7,626 hours to EHS in the past year.  Much of the success of last month’s animal walk can be attributed to the 120 volunteers who assisted at the event.  Youth job training groups such as Escondido’s Education COMPACT, volunteer at the EHS thrift store on a weekly basis.

Poremba added, “The volunteers really boost our spirits.  The energy that they bring to our group has helped us get through the difficulties we’ve faced this past year.”

Tickets for the comedy showcase can be purchased by the public for $10 a person at the box office the night of the show.  For more information, contact the Escondido Humane Society at (760) 839-0293 or www.escondidohumanesociety.org.
