ESCONDIDO CITY COUNCIL APPROVES
HUMANE SOCIETY
PLANS, SCHEDULED TO BREAK GROUND IN
JUNE
Escondido, CA--May 2, 2002- Last night, the
Escondido City Council unanimously approved the Escondido Humane Society’s
master development plan for the 15,000 square foot facility that will replace
the shelter which burned down over one year ago. The council additionally
agreed to look into their resources for the $1.65 million necessary to prepare
the land for building. A preliminary development plan for the second phase
of the project was approved as well as a zone change. The council’s
approval will allow the humane society to break ground this June.
In his address to the council, executive director Phil Morgan said, “Our
organization faces financial challenges in order to prepare this piece of land
for building. We are looking for a commitment from the city of Escondido
to truly become partners in this project. The total financial
responsibility of this investment will not exceed $1,651,000.”
The council asked City Manager Rolf Gunnarson to consider money sources for
such financial assistance. Gunnarson committed to return with his
recommendations in the coming weeks.
Today, Morgan says, “We couldn’t be happier with the outcome. By approving
the master plan on the first phase of our project, the City Council has allowed
us to move forward with plans to break ground this summer. I’m optimistic
that the council can find a fair and reasonable approach to assisting us with
our project.”
