POWAY BROWNIE TROOP DONATES CAT

BEDS TO ESCONDIDO HUMANE SOCIETY

ESCONDIDO, CA—June 15, 2002—Brownie troop #8392, from Poway,  has donated more than $100 in cat beds to the Escondido Humane Society’s Petsmart cat adoption unit.  The troop additionally purchased a memorial brick from the society, the proceeds of which will go toward the EHS rebuild fund.  The troop’s donation derived from earnings from their annual cookie sales.

To teach the girls about the value of volunteering, the troop leaders asked the group if they wanted to allot a portion of their earnings to a non-profit organization.  Troop leader, Maureen Kucke says, “They unanimously chose an animal welfare group.  They really wanted to do something to benefit animals.”

Denice Beeson, director of animal care for EHS says, “Since our shelter burnt down last year, we don’t have a lot of opportunities for volunteers. But, we still have a need for supplies at our two Petsmart adoption units.   When the brownies called up offering their help, I thought how about donating cat beds?”

The troop delivered the cat beds to the Petsmart adoption unit earlier this month.  Kucke says, “It was terrific that the girls were able to meet and pet some of the animals.”   The visit allowed the troop to see exactly how their donation would be utilized.
