POWAY RESIDENT HONORED AS HUMANE SOCIETY’S

VOLUNTEER CHAMPION OF ANIMALS

ESCONDIDO, CA—August 15, 2002-- The Escondido Humane Society will honor Barbara November, of Poway, as a “Champion of Animals” at the society’s annual Dinner of Champions August 24 at Escondido City Hall.  Each year the society honors “Champions of Animals” within the community and the organization.

“Volunteers like Barbara are one in a million”, says Ina Shookhoff Director of Education for EHS.  “Her love for the animals is contagious and she does an amazing job of relaying that passion and knowledge in her presentations.”

Every a month Barbara takes a humane society education animal to Casa de las Campanas, a retirement community in Rancho Bernardo.  She says, “It makes me feel good when I see people brighten up when I come in to visit. “
In June, she taught pet nutrition at the La Jolla YMCA where the humane society presented a week long education camp.  The children, age 6 through 12, decorated gourmet doggie treats that Barbara brought from her home-based business, the K-9 Cookie Club.

A long time animal lover, Barbara heard about the society’s volunteer program through a friend.  “I tagged along with her to a volunteer meeting one day.  She was having her dog certified as a pet therapy dog.  Soon after, I decided that I wanted to get involved too. “

To attend the dinner fundraiser where Barbara will be honored, contact the Escondido Humane Society at (760) 740-0286.  For more information, log onto the society’s web site at www.escondidohumanesociety.org.
