KUSI MORNING NEWS ANCHOR TO RECEIVE

HUMANITARIAN CHAMPION OF ANIMALS AWARD

ESCONDIDO, CA—August 14, 2002-- The Escondido Humane Society will honor Christine Bellport, morning news anchor on KUSI-TV, with the 2002 Humanitarian Champion of Animals award at the society’s annual Dinner of Champions August 24.  Each year the society recognizes local champions of animals at the dinner fundraiser.

Christine’s compassionate approach to the society’s pet of the week segment on KUSI morning news has helped find homes for countless pets throughout the year.  “Christine really puts her heart into the segments”, says Melanie Norton, Escondido Humane Society spokesperson.  “She tells the animal’s story in such a way that reaches the right person each time.”
Christine has been a long time animal lover having grown up with two Dobermans, just outside of San Francisco.   She says, “I feel like it’s my responsibility to use my position to speak up for our animal friends.” After joining the KUSI news team in 1999, Christine has been an active supporter of San Diego animal welfare groups.

Tickets to the dinner fundraiser cost $90 or $125 for patron seating which includes valet parking.  The evening includes a gourmet dinner, a STOMP inspired percussion performance and an awards ceremony.  Escondido’s City Hall Fountain Plaza will host the event.  To purchase tickets, call (760) 740-0286.
