THE ESCONDIDO HUMANE SOCIETY’S UNDER CONSTRUCTION AFFAIR

Annual Dinner Fundraiser, August 24th at Escondido City Hall

ESCONDIDO, CA—August 7, 2002—Leave your hard hats and shovels at home, the Escondido Humane Society’s 9th annual Dinner of Champions, “An Under Construction Affair”, isn’t meant to be taken too literally.  In light of construction on the new shelter, Escondido’s City Hall will host the fundraising event on August 24.  The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a reception and silent auction at the fountain plaza, followed by a gourmet dinner under the rotunda and concluding with an awards ceremony inside council chambers.  Proceeds from the evening will benefit the humane society’s education program, animal care programs and the new building scheduled for opening in January 2003.

“There’s a wonderful new excitement growing for this event and for the new home for the humane society”, says Jerry Buckley, vice president of development for the Escondido Humane Society.  “Thanks to Dr. Gary Gallerstein, his wife Laura and a fantastic event committee we will have a great evening to enjoy and exceed our financial goal of $20,000.”

A STOMP inspired percussion performance will precede a presentation for the 2002 Champions of Animals Awards.  Each year the society recognizes honorees who shine in the community as champions of animal causes.  This year’s award recipients are:

Philanthropic Champions:  Matt and Jean Mc Laughlin

Humanitarian Champion: Christine Bellport, KUSI-TV Morning News

Civic Champion: City of Escondido Planning & Building Department

Volunteer Champions:  Barbara November and Elsa Nilsson-Canin
Escondido Humane Society Employee Champion: Mary Lee Poremba

Silent auction items include a one week trip to Cabo San Lucas via Alaska Airlines, a one day cruise upon a Hunter 380 sailboat, and original works of art. Attire for the event is cocktail casual.  Tickets cost $90 for regular seating or $125 for VIP seating and valet parking.  Tickets can be purchased by calling the Escondido Humane Society at (760) 740-0286.
