An Adoption through the Escondido Humane Society At Home Adoption Program includes several benefits for the Adopter.
A Free microchip and sample bag of food is available with presentation of the animal and the microchip voucher to the Escondido Humane Society.
A one year free license will be provided to adopters that are residents within the city limits of Escondido and San Marcos. (Proof of current Rabies vaccination or purchase of a new rabies vaccination will be required for licensing.)
Recommendations:
KEEP SAFE: Meet pet owner at a neutral, public location, not your home or the adopter’s home. Always have someone accompany you when meeting strangers.
Keep pets leashed while introducing animals to each other. Take it slow. Be careful. If two dogs do not get along at a first introduction they will probably not get along in the future.
Request a copy of your pet’s medical history to the new pet owner.
Understand that this change may be difficult for your new pet and visiting by the previous owner after an adoption will confuse the pet and make his/her adjustment very difficult.
Make sure that your plan for your new pet is similar to the way the previous owners have kept their pet. Outdoor only dogs should go to another outdoor atmosphere, and dogs that have always been inside, should not suddenly become an outdoor dog.
Make your decision carefully. Ask questions,
find out all you can about the pets behaviors, habits and needs. Avoid impulse
adoptions.
