To participate in the Escondido Humane Society At Home Pet Adoption Program the Pet Owner must:
Recommendations:
Provide EHS with a digital picture of the animal to be included on the website. (File format, not a printout.)
Provide new owner with a new owner information package available through EHS.
Set up a temporary e-mail for potential adopters to contact you instead of using your personal e-mail address.
KEEP SAFE: Meet prospective owners at a neutral, public location, not your home or the adopter’s home. Always have someone accompany you when meeting strangers.
Keep pets leashed while introducing pets to each other. Take it slow. Be careful.
Provide a copy of your pet’s medical history to the new pet owner.
Understand that this change may be difficult for your pet and visiting after an adoption will confuse the pet and make his/her adjustment very difficult.
Make sure that the new owners plan for your pet is similar to the way you have kept your pet. Outdoor only dogs should go to another outdoor atmosphere, and dogs that have always been inside, should not suddenly become an outdoor dog.
Be honest with the prospective
owner. They will soon find out if Fido is not housebroken!
