Community outreach is an invaluable part of our mission. It helps our animals “reach out” to people outside the shelter environment, increases our visibility and raises public awareness of the lifesaving programs and services here at EHS. Below are the community outreach programs we offer:
Outreach Program
The Outreach Program is designed to increase the Escondido Humane Society’s visibility and the public’s awareness of EHS programs, services and mission by taking information and adoptable animals to public venues. Volunteers in the Outreach Program act as ambassadors for the Escondido Humane Society. Your participation helps raise vital funds and ensures the community knows the value of EHS programs and services. Opportunities include:
Outreach Manager
Outreach Managers are responsible for leading events and assisting staff with volunteer coordination, scheduling and recruitment. Managers are responsible for setting up, manning and tearing down EHS informational booths at outreach events and answering questions from the public about EHS programs and services and animal-related issues.
Animal Handlers
Animal handlers are responsible for transporting adoptable animals to and from outreach events, handling them during events and making sure they safely interact with the public.
If you are interested in joining our Outreach Program, call (760) 888-2270 or e-mail [email protected].
Speaking Engagements
EHS staff members are always happy to share our animal-related knowledge with other local organizations. We welcome opportunities to speak to groups interested in learning more about our mission or related animal welfare topics. To book a speaking engagement, contact Development Director Jean Russo at (760) 888-2240 or [email protected].
Guided Tours
We welcome individuals and groups for guided tours of our facility. To arrange a tour, contact Development Director Jean Russo at (760) 888-2240 or [email protected].
Special Events & Mobile Outreach
The Escondido Humane Society seeks opportunities to educate the public about our vital programs and services. We can feature informational booths at special events, fairs, festivals and conferences throughout San Diego County. Trained volunteers manage the booth and are available to answer questions about such topics as: EHS programs and services; pet adoption; the importance of spaying and neutering your pets; and other animal-welfare topics, including the humane treatment of animals and disaster preparedness. If allowed, we can bring adorable adoptable pets to engage with the public. Please note: Due to the high volume of requests we receive, we may not be able to attend every opportunity. For more information or to inquire about availability, call (760) 888-2270 or e-mail [email protected].
Third Party Events
A Third-Party Event is any fundraising activity by a non-affiliated group or individual where the Escondido Humane Society has no fiduciary responsibility and little or no staff involvement. (Examples include donation drives, fundraising parties and bake sales.) The third-party event hosts are responsible for all aspects of the event, including organizing, funding, planning, promoting, managing and staffing. EHS is unable to provide assistance with any of these aspects. (For instance, we cannot pay for any event-related costs, provide mailing lists, send e-mail blasts or direct mail promoting the event, ensure attendance, etc.) Requests for EHS staff, volunteers and/or animals to attend your event are handled on a case-by case basis, but cannot be guaranteed. Event organizers must obtain their own liability insurance to cover the event.
The time and effort that you put into such event will benefit the thousands of animals we care for each year at the Escondido Humane Society. No matter how large or small, your contribution will make a big difference in the lives of our animals.
To learn how your group or business can plan a fundraiser to help the animals awaiting their forever homes at the Escondido Humane Society, please contact Development Director Jean Russo at (760) 888-2240 or [email protected].
Applications for Third Party Events must be made at least six weeks in advance of the scheduled event.
