Animal Control Services

The Animal Control Center at the Escondido Humane Society, working with the incorporated cities of Escondido, San Marcos, and Poway, is contracted to provide Animal Control Services within these jurisdictions.

We accept all stray companion animals found within our jurisdiction and provide licensing services for animals within our jurisdiction.

**Due to space restrictions, we do not accept owner-surrendered animals on a walk-in basis. Please call us during regular operating hours, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., to check our current status.

If you are experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening emergency please call 911.

Additional Services

Please note that our Adoption Center and humane euthanasia services are private nonprofit components of the Escondido Humane Society, not Animal Control; thus, we may perform these donation-funded services for residents of any area (including unincorporated cities).

Our nonprofit center also provides humane euthanasia for animals from all jurisdictions. Our Adoption Center happily adopts to responsible, loving pet owners across San Diego County and beyond. We also provide rabies vaccinations (see licensing) and microchipping.

All fees (including licensing, impound fees, etc.) charged by Animal Control are set by and reimbursed directly and fully to the above cities. Animal Control services for the unincorporated areas surrounding San Marcos, Escondido and Poway are provided by the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services. For most residents of these unincorporated areas, the nearest County shelter is located at 2481 Palomar Airport Road in Carlsbad at (760) 746-7307 / (760) 438-2312.

Questions? Call us at (760) 888 - BARK (2275) between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. seven days a week. We would be happy to explain the services of the Animal Control Center at the Escondido Humane Society in depth.
