Paws in the Park 2008: SUCCESS!
A little early-morning drizzle couldn't keep the dogs and their owners from enjoying a fun-filled morning at Kit Carson Park last Sunday, as together, we raised funding and awareness for companion animals in need. At 9am, as the walk kicked off, the sun broke free from the clouds and didn't stop shining - and the tails didn't stop wagging, either! Over 1,200 people and hundreds of dogs packed the park for a 1.5 and 2.5 mile walk to benefit the Escondido Humane Society and the 10,000 animals we shelter every year.
Walkers and their dogs enjoyed a "packed" morning hosted by Ruben Galvan of FOX 6 News complete with games for people and pets (including a rubber duck pond, originally for the kids but turned over to the Golden Retrievers and friends); a confidence-building course for dogs; $10 microchipping and registration from HomeAgain; forty local vendors and sponsor booths; music from San Diego's Classic Rocking DJ, Gary Trice; complimentary Starbucks, Chipotle, Baron's, Major Market, and Pat and Oscars; tons of goodies and treats from Nutro, Kahoots, Natural Balance and more; a Canine Couture Fashion Show and Trading Faces look-a-like contest; and so much more. Most importantly, you raised over $100,000 for the animals at the Escondido Humane Society, helping to ensure that animals without homes have a loving, safe haven for as long as they need it!
$100,000 raised and counting!
