ONE YEAR LATER,
OZ THE CAT STILL WAITING FOR A HOME
SAN DIEGO, CA—October 28, 2002—Last October, a seven year old tom cat named Ozzie,
was surrendered to the Escondido Humane Society’s PETsMART adoption unit on Murphy
Canyon Rd. Adoption counselors assumed
the Russian Blue feline would find a new owner immediately. Today, Ozzie still resides in the adoption
center, waiting for a new home.
While potential adopters are initially drawn to
Ozzie’s wide eyed stare, they are deterred by his tall order of adoption
terms. First of all, his dominant
personality makes it impossible to place him in a home with other cats. Then, there’s the issue of his susceptibility
to urinary tract infections. To prevent
one from recurring, he requires a single dosage of ointment applied to his paw
once a day.
“People are
always drawn to Ozzie when they come in.
He has these big round eyes that just pop out at you. But once they see that he has special needs,
they just pass him by”, says Jennifer Rabehl, EHS
adoption counselor. “But in
reality, as long as he has his medicine he’s just as healthy as any other
cat.”
Ozzie will remain in the Escondido Humane Society’s
adoption center until he is adopted. He
has already been neutered and he is up to date with his shots. He is available at the PETsMART store in San
Diego on Murphy Canyon Rd. For
information, call (858) 571-0300 and ask for the Escondido Humane Society.
