What to do if you have lost your pet.

If you have recently lost your pet, chances are it may end up at the Escondido Humane Society.

Most animals that come in as strays will be pictured on our web site. The postings on the web site are updated once per hour. On our web site you can search the animals that were turned in as strays (see "View Stray Animals at EHS"), list your pet as a lost pet through Pet Harbor (link at bottom of the page), and read Pet Harbor's public listings of found animals (see "View Public Lost and Found Animals"). When listing the location where your pet was lost please list a cross street or well known landmark.

In addition to watching our web site, please also visit the shelter. If you have a picture of your pet please bring it with you.

At the shelter you can look through our stray kennels for your pet, file a lost report, look through our found reports and post a missing pet poster in our lobby. Our staff can check our stray listing for any animals that were brought in within the past 7 days that are not posted on the internet.

We encourage you to check the shelter at least once every three days to see if your lost pet has been picked up or turned in. Sometimes people will hold on to animals that they find and not even think to bring them into the shelter. For this reason, you should post flyers around the area where your pet was lost and in local pet stores and veterinary hospitals and place a lost pet ad in the newspaper. That service is usually low cost or free.
